Chemical evaluation of Citrullus golocynthis

Chemical evaluation of Citrullus golocynthis

F. W. Khan and Pazir Gul

ABSTRACT

Determination of the active constituents and solvent extractives from the Colocynth showed that the indigenous species was of good quality and can be used in the manufacture of mild mercurous chloride pills. Yield and chemical characteristics of the oil from the seed of the Indigenous species were compared favorably with those of the exotic species given in the literature. It was observed that the oil, being of semi-drying type, can be used in cosmetics and varnish industries.
