Preliminary investigations on food, behaviour and distribution of Musk deer in Northern Areas

ABSTRACT

Preliminary investigations conducted on Musk deer, Moschus moschiferous revealed its distribution in about 60 places in Northern Areas. The animal was observed feeding on flowers of Peucedanum skadicum, leaves of Betula utilis and Salix himalayensis and tuberous roots of Lindelofia anchusoides. Some behavioral studies were also conducted.
