ABSTRACT
Effect of paint chemicals on liver and renal profile in occupationally exposed household painters was evaluated in this study. For this purpose, 25 healthy male controls and 25 male painters were selected from Lahore, Pakistan. Unpaired Student “t” test was applied to analyse the parameters for statistical interpretation. There was significant increase in Alanine Aminotransferae (ALT), Alanine Phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin in painters as compared to control group. However, Aspartate Aminotransferae (AST) was mildly increased in painters. Creatinine and urea exhibited significant elevation in painters as compared to controls. Conclusively, long-term exposure to paints and associated chemicals may lead to severe hepatic and renal damages.
